Going Green for the Community The City of Peru in partnership with Advantage Logistics Green Team is collecting plastic bags in order to receive two composite park benches.  The types of bags we are collecting include: standard plastic grocery bags, bread bags, produce bags, newspaper bags, clean ziploc bags, magazine bags, water bottle case bags, toilet paper bags and other type 4 plastic bag.  Look for the blue recycling container located just inside the north doors of Peru Municipal building. Electronics Recycling effective Jan. 1 2012 Effective on January 1, 2012 the City of Peru garbage haulers will no longer be able to take electronics on your daily pickup.  For a list of electronics not allowed please read more. The City of Peru will look into alternative ways to recycle the electronics and provide that information to the residents.The following items will no longer be picked up with normal garbage: computer, computer monitor, printer, television, electronic keyboard, facsimile machine, videocassette recorder, protable digital music player, digital video disc player, video game console, electronic mouse scanner, digital converter box, cable receiver, satellite receiver, digital disc recorder or small scale server. 2012 IMUA Scholarship Program  The City of Peru in partnership with the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association (IMUA), is again offering a scholarship competition program for eligible high school seniors. Applicants must be a high school senior whose parents or legal guardians are residential custmers of the City of Peru Municipal Utility.  Each applicant is to submit an application and an essay of 500 words.
