Grocery Tax
- llinois Public Act 103-0781 provides that the Illinois grocery tax of 1%, which is currently levied by the State and distributed to local governments, is scheduled to be eliminated effective January 1, 2026 and provides municipalities the authority to enact a replacement local sales tax on grocery items
- At its meeting on May 19, 2025, the City Council approved an ordinance implementing a 1% municipal grocery retailers' occupation and municipal grocery service occupation tax, effective January 1, 2026.
