The City of Peru owns and maintains the Peru City Cemetery. Cemetery lots can be purchased by contacting personnel in the City Clerk's Office at (815) 223-0061. Cemetery deeds and burial records are on file at City Hall (815) 223-0061.

Burials may be made between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:30 pm Monday through Friday and by special arrangement only on Saturdays or holidays.

Rates, Fees and Charges
The price for each grave in the Peru City Cemetery shall be in cash upon purchase and delivery of a deed, as follows:

Plot (Grave)
Resident-$400.00 per grave

Non-Resident-$600.00 per grave 

Niche (Columbarium)
Resident-$500.00 per niche 
Non-Resident-$1,000.00 per niche 

Burial charges include opening and closing the grave and tamping and seeding the ground for each opening. A transfer within the Peru City Cemetery is charged as two grave openings. Payment is due at the time of burial unless prior arrangements have been made with the city clerk and the charges are as follows:

Grave opening: $600.00
Cremation grave opening: $200.00
Grave opening under 48 inches: $300.00
Disinterment for removal: $1,000.00
Disinterment for removal of cremains: $300.00

Memorial Mausoleum - (Full, no longer for Purchase)
Standard crypt: $600.00
Deluxe crypt: $600.00
Casket removal: $1,000.00
Charges include the opening of the mausoleum, the opening of the crypt, and the closing and sealing of the crypt in the Memorial Mausoleum.

Columbarium 
Inurnment: $200.00
Removal of urn from niche: $300.00
Charges include the opening of the niche, placement of the urn, and closing of the niche.

Transfer of a deed
$50.00 to a family member, for each transaction


The placement of fresh flowers, artificial flowers, wreaths, memorials, candles, vigil lights and decorations on graves is allowed in all parts of Peru City Cemetery from April 1 to October 31. Shepherd's hooks or any wooden or metal frame or device to hold floral displays or other displays are also allowed. Winter decorations and covering for entire graves are allowed starting November 15 and will be removed based on weather under the direction of the Public Services Manager. The grave owner shall remove all such items for the City of Peru cemetery cleaning as announced by the Public Services Manager and published on this website and in the local newspaper.
