Welcome to the Peru Police Department! I am proud to serve as Police Chief leading a Department made up of the finest individuals in law enforcement. The City of Peru is a dynamic community and the members of this Department are proud to provide professional law enforcement services to over the 10,000 residents that make Peru their home and the tens of thousands of others who work, shop or otherwise visit our community. As the retail and industrial hub of north central Illinois, our mission is to serve and protect those who live in Peru and to all the others who visit and make our success possible.

The Department is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days a year by 24 full-time sworn police officers, 1 part-time sworn police officer a civilian Community Service Officer and and 12 full and part-time civilian employees. Additionally the Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch Center, with a full and part time staff supplement of nearly 20 personnel is housed in the Peru Police Station. There is always someone to provide professional, courteous service in person at the police window or on the telephone. We handle approximately 30,000 calls for service each year, and our staff excels at practicing a customer service approach to law enforcement.

The Department is recognized as a full service community oriented policing agency and lives our motto daily, Committed to Excellence!

Very truly yours,

Douglas P. Bernabei
